Research Clusters
The New Political Economy Initiative works across the social sciences to create a robust knowledge base for a democratic political economy.
We are building a team of scholars and fostering a global network of researchers organized across three research clusters.
Research and Analysis: The three research clusters serve as hubs for conducting in-house research and hosting studies that align with the Initiative’s objectives. They are dedicated to generating new insights and advancing the Initiative’s mission.
Networking and Collaboration: These research clusters also act as platforms for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to connect, share ideas, and collaborate on projects. This exchange of knowledge strengthens networks, encourages interdisciplinary cooperation, and contributes to the research goals within each cluster.
Capacity Building: The research clusters also play a role in training and mentoring students, early-career researchers, and practitioners. Through targeted mentorship and development opportunities, they help build skills and foster new research directions, nurturing the next generation of scholars and practitioners.

Social Structures of the Economy
Research and allied activities within this research cluster aims to nudge Indian sociology beyond the “embedded” thesis to show how commerce, production, and finance often occur in the service of the reproduction of social dominance.
