Industrial Policy and Structural Transformation

This research cluster has twofold aims: first, to fill some major research gaps in India viz. studies of industrial policy successes in states such as Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat, followed by sectoral studies. Second, to study the latest Indian industrial policy moves viz. Make in India, PLI, National Semiconductor Mission, etc. Finally, this research clusters aims to spread the knowledge of some of the “canonical” works of comparative industrial policy (Amsden, Wade, Chang, Evans, etc.) to advanced graduate students and especially engineering students at the IITs.
Overall, this research cluster is trying to build a productivist agenda for structural transformation focussing on “predistribution” through changing patterns and relations of work, which is is missing from the policy and academic spaces alike.
