Development Macroeconomics in the Indian Context Conference, 2025

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Development Macroeconomics (DevMac) network which aims to articulate the analysis of development through the macroeconomic framework that is deeply rooted in the socio-historical-political context of India and to create pedagogic material on what we call as Indian context specific Macroeconomics.
The inaugural conference of the DevMac network was held on the 27 – 29 March 2025 at Azim Premji University in Bengaluru. The conference is hosted by the New Political Economy Initiative, IIT Bombay and Azim Premji University.
The conference starts with a Pedagogy workshop on the 27 March 2025 that would articulate the macroeconomic approach to development in the areas of Structural Transformation, Fiscal Policy, Monetary Policy and Economic growth. In this pre-conference Arjun Jayadev provided the context and relevance of this network followed by sessions on Fiscal Policy in a developing economy (with presentations by Srinivasan Raghavendra & Zico Dasgupta, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru), Monetary Policy (with presentations by Indranil Chowdhury, Delhi University, New Delhi & Rohit Azad, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi), Growth and Dsitribution (with presentations by Rohit Azad & Srinivasan Raghavendra) and Structural Transformation (with presentations by Saumya Chakrabarti, Viswa-Bharati University & Shouvik Chakraborty, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Amherst & Zico Dasgupta). This meeting was followed by the Executive Board Meeting and a Guest Lecture by Michalis Nikiforos, University of Geneva
